Beginner handling starts us off with the basics. You learn who is who at the dog show. Why we have dog shows. Proper lead and collar placement. How to properly hold the leash. How a dog show works. How to accept your ribbon and common dog show terms. Where to find your breed’s breed standard and why you need to interpret it. We teach you how to show your dog’s bite, what you should wear when showing your dog. We give you downloadable and printable checklists for packing or a show, for tracking your dog’s championship points, what you should have on hand for dog show emergencies and so much more! Intermediate handling continues your education about everything dog show. It starts by showing you what to notice in the ring. Where is the table or the ramp? Why is this important? How to stack your dog on a ramp, and what breeds must use a ramp and what breeds are optional. You are taught advanced stacking techniques including why you should ALWAYS move the front foot back and why you should stack on the edge of the mat closets to the judge. You will go through more advanced gaiting patterns, learn how to act like a winner, and why it is important to know proper ring etiquette. We teach you the different ways to show the bite to the judge and what is appropriate for your breed. You will learn the very important art of how to support your dog during the judges exam and so much more. This course is complete with downloadable and printable worksheets and checklists. As well there is a printable e-book that you can take anywhere.
Advanced handling takes you from being a handler to thinking like a handler and polishing your skills. You will learn why we use a wet towel at ringside. Why you need to know where you will stack your dog BEFORE you enter the ring. What you should do if the judge asks for two dogs to be examined on the table at the same time. What it takes to get into the winners circle with consistency and how to use the “kitty-kitty method” when things get tense. You will also see why you have to be “showy” to have a “showy’ dog. We will introduce you to a great tool called a stack box and teach you how to use one to improve your dog’s stack and as well how to use it to teach your dog to free bait to perfection. We discuss when handling classes are appropriate and when they may be detrimental. Common troubleshooting methods are shown. You are taught how to assess your dog for greater success and why showing your breed like it’s breed is key to winning. We share tips and tricks and even recipes! There are downloadable and printable worksheets. As well there is a printable e-book that you can take anywhere.
The Best Dog in Two Minutes is for the handler who wants to explore the theory behind winning and how that “special something” can make up for less than perfect conformation. Allison walks you through her theory on how exhibitors and breeders and the like have a lifetime to decide how good or bad a certain dog is, but the judge has only 2 minutes. We show you why you must be prepared before you enter the ring, how to make a good impression before you even enter the competition and how to make your dog stand out from the rest. It is important the judge sees your dog’s virtues and we make sure you get the most of that. As well there is a printable e-book that you can take anywhere.
Campaigning Your Dog is a blueprint for you to follow to help you and your dog get the desired outcome at the end of a show season. You learn how to pick a goal and understand the points (or dogs defeated) it takes to reach that goal. We give blueprints on how to pick shows and judges, how to advertise and how to approach social media. You learn how to be remembered, how to go with the flow and how to build on this year’s success to make each following year just a little bit easier. There are flowcharts and forms to download and print. As well there is a printable e-book that you can take anywhere.

I showed my first dog in Junior Handling when I was 7 years old, I went 5th out of 5 in a junior handling class, I cried, but despite that humble beginning I was instantly hooked!
Believing that you should always do what you love, I became a professional handler in 1987 and I have been presenting Canada's (and the world’s) top dogs ever since. With more than 550 All-Breed Best in Shows, I am proud to have been highly awarded at such prestigious shows as Crufts, the World Dog Show, Westminster Kennel Club and the AKC Invitational. As well I have had Top Dog All breeds in Canada 3 separate times, all three dogs are still record holder’s in their own right.
In addition to my wins as an all-breed handler, I have spent more than 30 years perfecting the art of presenting one of the dog world's most difficult breeds to master: The Poodle. Today, I am internationally recognized as one of the world's most talented and experienced Poodle handlers. I have presented seminars on grooming Poodles all over this planet. . I am also the Creative Educational Advisor and Specialist for Chris Christensen Systems.
I have proven that hard work, dedication and passion can take you absolutely everywhere in this wonderful sport, which is why I am committed to supporting, promoting and giving back to the dog community. Currently, I am President of the Canadian Professional Dog Handlers Association, Vice-President of the Canadian Kennel Club Foundation, I have been CKC Junior Handling representative for both Nova Scotia and South Western Ontario. I am a regular contributor to dog magazines in several countries. I have mentored several of the Top Professional Handlers in the USA and Canada as well as coached 3 Juniors to win the Canadian National one of whom went on to win Crufts World Junior Handling Competition.
In 2017, I launched Leading Edge Dog Show Academy, the world's first on-line dog show training school. My mission is to help mentor a new generation of dog show enthusiasts through innovative video-based grooming and handling lessons. LEDSA has won the award for Best On-line Education each year since it’s inception. I look forward to working with enthusiastic students as they perfect their skills on the way to the winner's circle.
Sit back, as I bring a lifetime of grooming and handling lessons to video, here at Leadingedge Dog Show Academy.
